The Goldey House is a creative sanctuary in New York's breathtaking Lake George region.

Artist-led and driven Retreats

Artist-led

Each year, artists are invited to submit a proposal for a retreat at the Goldey House. The specific theme and activities of these retreats are entirely up to the lead artist and the group, fostering a dynamic and ever-evolving creative environment.

Collaboration

Rather than focusing solely on individual studio practice, the Goldey House prioritizes personal growth through collaboration and exchange. By bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, we create a fertile ground for cross-pollination of ideas and artistic exploration.

Community

Through this unique model of facilitated, interdisciplinary retreats, the Goldey House fosters community building for artists to reconnect with their practices, find inspiration, and cultivate meaningful connections with one another and the natural world.

Reflection

Retreats at the Goldey House are typically one to two weeks in duration. By removing participants from their daily routines, we create a space for artists to reevaluate perspectives, experiment with new approaches to artmaking, and catalyze important life changes – opportunities often lacking amidst our demanding schedules.

Interdisciplinary

Interacting with those who come from different disciplines is essential for the cross-pollination of ideas. You never know what will inspire your practice, as inspiration often comes from unexpected sources. At the Goldey House, we encourage artists to be open to learning about others' ideas and creative processes.

Skillshare

As creative professionals, we have spent countless hours learning and problem-solving material and technological questions in our studios. Often, we don't realize how much knowledge we have obtained and can share with others. Sharing know-how and resources is key to fostering a collaborative and supportive artistic community.

Founder:

Lauren Comito is an artist and educator based in Brooklyn, NY whose dream has been to establish a tranquil creative retreat. As someone who has been visiting Lake George since childhood, she has developed a deep appreciation for the region's pristine natural beauty and restorative serenity.

For Comito, the Goldey House represents the manifestation of her vision to create a sanctuary where artists, writers, musicians, and creative thinkers from all disciplines can gather, collaborate, and rediscover their passion. The house serves as a nurturing space that allows visitors to escape the stresses of daily life and fully immerse themselves in their artistic pursuits.

Through workshops, residencies, and community events, the Goldey House fosters an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity, creative exploration, and cross-pollination of ideas.
